Mornings on a board with Baby Reef Sanur

Baby Reef Sanur · 21 Oct 2026 · 8 min read

A lineup note from Pantai Mertasari: how a surf school morning actually starts, what to tell the crew, and why the walk back up the sand still counts as part of the session.

Sanur mornings are quiet in a specific way. The beach path is already warm, scooters are still sparse, and Pantai Mertasari has that pale, early light that makes the water look closer than it is. If you have asked Baby Reef Sanur for a surf school morning, this is usually when you walk down.

This is not a brochure. It is a note from the same sand we use every day — the same walk as snorkeling and surf foil, but this one is about a board under your feet.

You meet on the sand first

Surf school with Baby Reef Sanur does not begin in the lineup. It begins on Pantai Mertasari, with the crew, before anyone paddles. You find us on the beach. We talk through the morning. Then you go in.

That order matters more than people expect. The water here changes. A morning that looks glassy from the warung can feel different once you are standing in it. The crew sees that from the sand. You do not have to guess it from a hotel balcony.

Ask for a morning that fits the days you are actually in Sanur. Then wait for the crew to confirm the time.

What a surf school morning is — and is not

This page is about surf school. Not snorkeling. Not surf foil. Those live on the same beach, with the same crew, but they are different sessions. If you write to us, name the one you want. It saves a round of messages later.

A surf school morning is time on a board with the Baby Reef crew, from the Mertasari base, timed around your stay. That is the whole offer. We do not list a price here. WhatsApp, call, or email, and we talk it through.

What to send when you write

  • That you want surf school — say the words.
  • Which morning you are in Sanur, as best you know it.
  • A way to reach you if you write by email: suandababyreef@gmail.com.

Phone and WhatsApp: 0813-3756-6623. The contact page has the same details if you would rather start there.

Surfer on a breaking wave

Why mornings, on this beach

Mertasari is not a secret. It is the beach in front of us. Baby Reef Sanur runs from here because this is where the crew already is. Surf school, snorkeling, surf foil — one walk down. If you are staying in Sanur, you do not need a second location in the story.

Mornings are simply when a lot of people ask to go. The light is easier. The beach is less busy. That is not a promise about the swell. The water does what it does. The crew confirms a time around your stay; they do not invent conditions in a message.

The part people skip in their head

After the session you walk back up the sand. Boards go down. Salt dries on your shoulders. That walk is still the morning. If you only remember the wave you stood on, you missed half of it.

We keep saying “timed to your stay” because that is how the days actually work. You are here for a handful of mornings. We are here every day. The useful question is not “do you have surf school?” It is “which morning are you in Sanur?”

If you want another session

Some people come back the next day. Some only wanted one morning on a board and then go look at the gallery or read who the crew is. Both are fine. If you want snorkeling or foil instead, say so — those are different pages, different water.

The booking path does not change. Message first. Hear back. Then walk down to Pantai Mertasari. Full notes on the session itself sit on the surf school page. Other lineup notes will live on the blog when they are written.

Until then: ask what the water is doing. The crew will tell you straight.
